LC Policy #32
We are committed to providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone who works with us, uses our services, or visits our setting.
We are an equal opportunities employer and service provider. This means we will not discriminate unfairly or unlawfully against anyone because of their age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation, or is disadvantaged by conditions or requirements which cannot be shown to be relevant to performance. It also seeks to ensure that no person is victimised or subjected to any form of bullying or harassment.
We are committed to treating everyone with fairness, dignity and respect, and to challenging discrimination, bullying and harassment wherever it occurs.
This policy applies to all staff, including employees, volunteers, contractors and casual workers. It also applies to the children and families who attend or use Little Crumpets.
Definitions and Concepts
We believe that embracing equality and inclusion helps us provide better care and education for children and creates a positive working environment for staff.
Equality
“Equality” means ensuring everyone has the same opportunities to fulfil their potential free from discrimination.
Equity
“Equity” means recognising barriers and that some groups are more advantaged than others and putting measures in place to eliminate these barriers ensures equal opportunities for all.
Inclusion
“Inclusion” means ensuring everyone feels comfortable to be themselves at work and feels the worth of their contribution.
Diversity
“Diversity” means the celebration of individual differences amongst the workforce.
This policy covers all aspects of employment and engagement, including recruitment and selection; induction and training; pay, terms and conditions; working arrangements; promotion and development; day to day working relationships. All policies and practices will be reviewed regularly to ensure they are fair, lawful and inclusive.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Managers and leaders must lead by example, promote inclusive behaviour and challenge discrimination. Managers will receive appropriate training to support fair recruitment and inclusive management practices.
The Director/ Owner Clare Raffet has overall responsibility for implementing and monitoring this policy.
All staff are responsible for treating colleagues, children and families with dignity and respect and for following this policy at all times.
Fair Treatment and Opportunities
All staff, whether full-time, part-time or temporary, will be treated fairly and respectfully.
Recruitment, promotion and training decisions will be based on skills, experience and suitability for the role.
Reasonable adjustments will be considered to support staff and candidates with additional needs.
We will support staff to develop their skills and reach their full potential.

We encourage staff to speak up if they believe they have been treated unfairly or have experienced discrimination, bullying or harassment.

By working together and taking personal responsibility for our behaviour and decisions, we can ensure our setting remains a safe, inclusive and respectful place for everyone.
This policy will be reviewed annually, unless circumstances or legislation dictates otherwise, to ensure it remains effective, up to date and reflective of best practice in early years and education.
